Talia’s father passed away, leaving her mother to care for the family alone. Her mother was unable to take care of all five children. As a result, Talia’s siblings were taken in by extended family members, while Talia remained in her mother’s care. Her mother sells produce on the roadside, but her income is unreliable and not enough to meet Talia’s needs. Education is Talia's best hope to break free from the cycle of poverty.
