Both of Sanchez's parents disappeared during the fighting on Mt. Elgon after they were taken away by rebel fighters. All of the family's livestock was also stolen. Since that night in 2012, Sanchez has lived under the care of his great-grandfather. He is in his nineties and is in frail health. Because he cannot work any longer, the children in the household forage for food in the nearby forest. They are struggling to get by day-to-day.
