Patience’s family is in great need. Her father is a small-scale farmer, but harsh weather conditions make it difficult for him to grow enough food to feed the family or sell to provide for them. Her mother stays at home to care for Patience and her siblings. The family struggles to have more than one meal a day, and most nights the children go to bed hungry. Education is Patience's only hope to break free from the cycle of poverty.
