Oscar’s life is filled with challenges and sadness. After his father passed away from cirrhosis of the liver, his mother abandoned the family. Oscar and his five siblings now live with their elderly grandfather. Because of his age, he is unable to work consistently making it difficult to provide for the family. Many nights, the family eats only one meal a day, and sometimes they go to bed without eating. Education is Oscar's best hope for a brighter future.
