Onis and his mother live in a one-room house with a dirt floor. His father is not in his life. His mother sells tortillas to bring in income. They live day-to-day. Onis has a speech problem and needs therapy. Onis has only known generations of hunger and desperation, but he dreams of one-day finishing school and making a better future for himself.
