Metty is a bright girl who comes from a hardworking family. Her father and mother are day laborers, but steady work is difficult to find, and their income is unreliable. Despite their hard work, they struggle to provide Metty and her sister with more than one meal a day, and most nights the family goes to bed hungry. Education is Metty's best chance to break the cycle of poverty.
