Mercy's father, Nelson, is a polygamist and so after Mercy's mother died, she was raised by one of the other "mothers" in her family. Mercy has five full biological siblings, but there are 10 children in this household. Educaiton is Mercy's only hope to break free from the cycle of poverty.
