Henry’s life is filled with abandonment. His father left the family, and his mother is often away, leaving Henry in the care of his grandmother. Henry’s grandmother cares for several other grandchildren and has little time to work consistently. As a result, Henry and his cousins go to bed hungry most nights. Education is Henry's best hope for a life of possibility.
