Gracious is fortunate to live with both of her parents. Her father works as a day laborer, but he has been unable to find steady employment. Her mother is a teacher, but her income is not enough to support the family. Many nights, the family has only one meal a day. Despite her circumstances, Gracious loves school. Education is Gracious's only hope to break the cycle of poverty.
