Esther was found alone at six months old in a refugee camp after her family fled the conflict on Mt. Elgon. Her biological parents are unknown. Esther was taken in by a foster family. Her foster parents, Simon and Stella, are small-scale farmers, but harsh weather makes it difficult to grow enough food for the family. Education is Esther's only hope to break free from the cycle of poverty.
