Emmah understands the devastation of HIV/AIDS. Emmah lost her father to HIV related complications, and her mother is sick with the disease, as well. Because of the disease, her mother cannot work to provide for Emmah's most basic needs. Emmah survives on a diet of ugali (cornmeal mush) and beans. She lives in a mud home with 27 other people.
