Elias comes from a difficult family background. His father has died. His mother was married when she was still a schoolgirl, so she has no education or learned trade. There are five children in this household, and they live hand-to-mouth. This means Elias never knows when he can have something to eat. He is malnourished. On top of everything, Elias has had a very late start in school because his family has not been able to pay his tuition. Elias needs support.
