Abigael's father neglected and then abandoned the family completely. Abigael's mother relies on odd jobs in the Langas slums to make ends meet, often earning less than $1 per day. Sometimes the children are out of school for long periods of times due to lack of fees. They also miss meals. When the children are sick, there is no money to take them to the doctor. Despite the challenges in her life, Abigael is very joyful. She will be so excited to learn she has a sponsor!
