Shantel is living under the custody of her grandmother. Her father abandoned the family years ago, and her mother has no job and could not provide for the needs of the children. Shantel's grandmother is a subsistence farmer who earns about $5 per month from selling any extra crops they can grow. Shantel has a younger brother. There is not enough money to pay their school fees, so they asked for sponsorship.
