Millicent's family comes from an impoverished background. They grow crops on a small farm, but they do not grow enough food to sell and earn an income. They live in a small, single room house with a grass-thatched roof. There is no running water or electricity. At the time of entering high school, Millicent is currently staying with her grandmother and receiving one meal of porridge per day.
