Dancan has a difficult origin story. His mother gave birth to him when she was only 13 years old. She fled soon after, and nobody knows Dancan's father. His entire life, Dancan has been raised by his grandparents. Now his grandfather has been diagnosed with cancer and can no longer work. Most of the family income must go towards his treatment. Dancan's grandmother makes and sells chapati (flat bread) in the neighborhood, earning under $1 per day. There is no money to educate Dancan or meet his basic needs.
