Angel was abandoned by her parents at a young age. Her father is unknown, and her mother has moved from city-to-city in search for better work. Angel is being raised by her grandmother, but the woman is elderly and cannot work manual labor to care for the family. They live in a small manyatta house made of woven grass. There is no running water or electricity. They do not even have beds. Angel is a bright girl who loves reading from the Bible.
